In late October 2018, we opened our new Tasting Room and adjoining SLATE Restaurant, a state-of-the-art facility that adds another dimension to wining and dining in the Clare Valley. From Friday to Monday, the SLATE Restaurant comes to life. The Restaurant is named SLATE to acknowledge the ancient bed of slate (or more correctly Siltstone) that our property and indeed, the entire Polish Hill River Valley, sits on. It was set down more than 500 million years ago in the Neoproterozoic geological era and underpins everything we do here at Pikes, creating the unique point of difference in our wines, especially Riesling.
Featuring a modern Australian, Mediterranean-style menu that showcases fresh regional produce. There’s Doug Sluggett’s home-grown Sevenhill fruit and vegetables, premium local lamb from Wunderbar, grass fed beef from 36° South in SA’s south east, fresh Pacific Estate Stansbury oysters and Little Bunyip mushrooms from Watervale, just to name a few. The wine list naturally features the full range of Pikes table wines, as well as a back-vintage selection of reserve and museum wines available from the purpose-built underground cellar. Discerning customers can also choose from a select range of international wines for benchmarking purposes, together with Pikes beer on tap, a small range of spirits and freshly-brewed coffee from the restaurant bar.
