View Christchurch from the best possible vantage point - high above! - with a ride aboard the modern Christchurch Gondola that offers beautiful views.
What to expect
An unmissable Christchurch experience, the Gondola offers stunning unique views of the city, Lyttelton Harbour and beyond from our summit station situated atop the Port Hills. A great family-friendly spot to explore for locals and visitors, a visit to the Gondola is a must-do activity.
Take in the spectacular 360-degree views and see Christchurch from a different perspective: gaze at the snow-capped Southern Alps, sprawling Canterbury Plains and the sparkling waters of Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
The summit station offers plenty to entertain: explore the many walking tracks and wide open spaces amidst fresh air, learn about the history of the area on the Christchurch Discovery ride, and indulge in a spot of shopping at our well-priced gift shop. Sit back and take in the fantastic views with a snack from the licensed Red Rock Café.

Operating Hours
- Open daily: 10am – 5pm summer and 10am – 4pm winter. (last cabin departs the summit station one hour after closing).
- The Christchurch Gondola Cafe is open 7 days a week 10am-4pm
- Red Rock Café: fully licensed, accommodates 120 pax and is open daily from 10am – 5pm
- Shop at the Top: NZ souvenirs and gifts including momentos, jewellery and clothing
- Time Tunnel: A six minute entertaining ride on an electric cart which takes you back in time through the history of the local area
- Walking & Mountain biking tracks
Location
- Located on the edge of Christchurch just fifteen minutes by vehicle from the heart of the City at 10 Bridle Path Road Heathcote Valley
- Parking is available at our base station for cars, campervans and coaches
- For those in the city without their own vehicle, a shuttle bus operates from Cathedral Square every hour from 9:30am to 3:30pm until 30th April 2025. The bus departs the Gondola Bus Station to return to the city every hour from 10am to 4pm. Tickets are available to purchase on board.
