Discover the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) and South Georgia before stepping foot on the White Continent. Departing Ushuaia, an Argentinian port nestled within the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, sail to the Falkland Islands.
The archipelago contains two main islands, East Falkland, and West Falkland. Whilst geographically closer to Argentina, the capital, Port Stanley offers a unique British outpost feel, complete with pubs, a cathedral and homes that would not look out of place in downtown Surrey. Wander the islands’ sandy dunes and birdwatch at rugged seabird cliffs. The archipelago is home to Magellanic, Gentoo and southern rockhopper penguins. You can also expect to see black-browed albatross, plus the endemic species – the flightless Falkland steamer duck.
Sailing southeast to South Georgia, you’ll officially enter Antarctic waters once the ship crosses the Antarctic Convergence, an invisible biological boundary encircling the continent. In South Georgia, discover the beaches where king penguins breed – one of the highest densities of animal life on earth – and learn about the rich historical legacy of the places you visit.
At the South Shetland Islands and stunning Antarctic Peninsula, witness calving glaciers, Minke whales, waddling Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins. Keep an eye out also for Weddell, fur, and leopard seals. Pursue your passions with a choice of rewarding activities such as Zodiac sailings, paddling excursions, hiking and an extensive educational program.
