What to expect

Discover stunning Tasmanian landscapes without breaking the budget on this 15 day self drive holiday.

Starting in Hobart, a scenic Derwent River ferry trip to the Mona Museum is an absolute must before you take off on a lap of the Apple Isle.

The drive through temperate rainforests to the secluded lakeside village of Strahan is guaranteed to be a highlight. As is a night staying just minutes from the edge of an ancient volcanic plug in the fairytale-like village of Stanley. Hint: order the crayfish from Hersey Seafoods. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Next up, we highly recommend a short stay in Burnie or Devonport, where you’re within easy reach of the iconic Cradle Mountain. Access is free using your National Parks Pass.

As you head further east, you’ll hit Tamar Valley wine country, where an afternoon sampling local drops is absolutely time well spent.

The idyllic east coast makes for a wonderful end to your journey. You may choose to explore cute cafes and coastal walks, or take in one of the jewels in Tasmania’s crown – the stunning Freycinet National Park.
