International driving permits

Need to drive overseas? We can help with an international drivers licence

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a tourist international drivers licence that allows you to drive overseas without needing more tests or applications. RAA are the only organisation in South Australia authorised to issue International Driving Permits.

Things you should know

  • Your International Driving Permit will be valid for 12 months.
  • The permit is a translation of your valid Australian driver’s licence into nine languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Greek, German and Japanese). It can be a handy form of ID when talking with foreign authorities.

Photo prices:

  • $21.95 for non-members

Countries you need a permit to drive

Only some countries require you to have an International Driving Permit. Before you buy a permit, we recommend you check the Australian Automobile Association's International Driving Permit Directory for the permit requirements for your destination.
